Interview with Enric Madriguera:

Question: Who do you think is the most overrated and the most underrated composer for the classical guitar?

Enric Madriguera:
I don’t think of this topic in exactly the same terms, but I do know what you mean. These days society has much more efficient and quicker ways of promoting cultural figures – so I’d say in general the composers that are the most recent will have the tendency to be overrated - due to all the media hype. Still, there are many really excellent composers for the guitar, ….and time will tell.
....

Question: Which „Slogan“ would you use in advertising for the classical guitar?

Enric Madriguera:
“I can’t believe its classical guitar!”….this was a slogan used by a frozen yogurt company in the US to great effect  and it seems to apply to items of acquired taste.

....

Question: What things in your life do you definitely want to learn and what do you regret not having done?

Enric Madriguera: 1. Learn - more music.
2. Regret: Not having an infinite lifetime to do this even better.

....

Question: What dreams do you have that you would like to fulfil?

Enric Madriguera:
Contribute to the pedagogy and scholarship of the guitar and related instruments, and add to the historic legacy of the guitar in some way.

.....

Question: What is embarrassing for you?

Enric Madriguera L
eaving scores on an airplane – which were then lost. Luckily I was with Kathryn Evans, as I performed with her the last time I was in Rust. She saved the day and I copied her scores – but that was both a shock to not see the scores and an embarrassment as well. I learned a good lesson there.

......

Question: What short phrase would you use to discribe your lifes philosophy?

Enric Madriguera:  Better to be a doer!

.....

Question: Which abuse in your native country would you like to do away with?

Enric Madriguera:
Endless advertisements promoting medications which in some cases  seem to have,  in addition to their benefits, some dangerous side effects –

....

Question: In relation to world history, which personalities fascinate you the most?

Enric Madriguera:
The philosopher Seneca

.....

Question: Which question would you like to be asked and what is your answer to this question?

Enric Madriguera:
Anwer to question – “so far, so good!”

....

Question: Which guitar virtuoso today has the makings to follow in the footsteps of Andres Segovia?

Enric Madriguera:
Ninguno!!..none of us!!.....Segovia blazed his own path – we need to find our own path in this respect.
